Bright Chivaaree
As soon as I opened my eyes, only one thing and one thing was running inside my head - the coupon. Well, I know that I should really save it for special occasions, but today more than ever, the urgency to have a date with Win was stronger than my own reasoning. Rolling on my side, I reached for my phone and dialed Win's number despite the fact that it was still 7 in the morning. The other side kept on ringing and I pouted because I felt like Win doesn't want to answer my call, and just decided to hang up.
"Sad," I mumbled and spread myself on the bed when my phone suddenly blares so loudly, and it screened Win's number making me smile before answering it.
["Alpha? What's wrong? Why did you call me so early? I'm sorry, I was doing some laundry because Mom is not here."]
Oh. "Sorry Win, I didn't know," I apologized and Win hummed on the other line. "Do you have anything else planned out for today?"
["Not that I know of. Do you need anything from me though?"]
"Yes," though nervous, I calmed myself down and pressed the earpiece just a little more against my ear as I burrowed my face into my palm.
"I want to use my first coupon for a movie date with you tonight."
Silence. There was a deafening silence from the other line, and I wanted to be swallowed whole all of a sudden and my heart was practically beating so loudly against my chest. There were a lot of things running inside my head, things such as the reality that Win didn't really mean to use that coupon with me - and I was just being a delulu thinking that he'd let me. The amount of nervousness vanished into thin air, and all that I felt at the moment was just plain - sadness and disappointment. Sadness that Win didn't really like me at all, and disappointment for thinking that I could actually have a chance with him - but I don't.
["Y-y-yes, Alpha."]
"Yes?" I sit up erect on top of the bed almost instantly, and this time, my heart was beating so damn fast from his response.
["Yes."] There was silence, and Win inhaled. ["I'd love to have a date with you."]
With the excitement inside of me, I fisted the whole damn sheet and pursed my lips tight - almost to the point of total pain while I tried not to shout from happiness. After calming myself, and already making a lot of plans inside my head, I coughed a little and composed myself.
"Then, let's eat dinner first before going to the movies. How about five o'clock? Does that sound good to you?" I asked in an almost cool way but I was already twirling the ends of my pillows with my fingers while squeezing the life out of it with my thighs.
["S-sure. I will be waiting."]
The call ended and I immediately moved out of the bed, ran in circles around my room, and flailed my hand up in the air from excitement. We will have our first date today, and nothing would stop it from not happening at all! Though still early, I started to rummage my dresser for what to wear for our date later whilst whistling a happy tune to match my feelings perfectly.
•••••
"But," I trailed and looked at Maeve who was already dressed in her very elegant gown right next to Aegon in his suit and tie.
"But what?" Aegon asked with a confused expression. "Didn't we already tell you that you would be staying here at the packhouse because your Mom and I will attend an event for the company?"
My shoulders dropped as I nodded in response because I totally forgot about it, and I only have an hour before telling Win that our date wouldn't happen. I wanted to cry so badly.
"Did you make plans?" It was Maeve this time when she noticed that I was basically pouting.
"It was supposed to be my first date with Win tonight. I planned on having dinner with him, and we'd go to the movies right after. But of course, it won't happen because I forgot about your own engagement - and no one's here to watch the packhouse. Sky's out due to a project, so I should stay here because it's my duty and responsibility as your son," I mumbled. "And I'm sad."
"I'm sorry, baby," Maeve gave my cheek a gentle kiss. "Mommy's sorry that you won't be able to have your date with your mate. Maybe next time? Just explain to Win what happened, okay? I'm sure that our Win would understand the situation for he loves the pack, too."
"Alright."
"Don't be sad, baby," she cooed. "We'll be going now, okay?"
Though saddened, I nod in understanding before giving both of them kisses on their cheeks and send them off with my eyes until Aegon's car was nowhere to seen anymore. As disappointment dawned on me, I slumped on the living room couch and hovered my finger on Win's contact. After releasing all the air out of my lungs, I finally dialed his number, and Win answered on the third ring.
["Alpha? What is it? Are you here already? It's still early though."]
"Win~" I uttered. "I know that it was me who planned this date, but something came up. Mom and Dad had to attend an event and left me all alone here at the packhouse. I'm so sorry, Win. I really wanted that date but," I paused and just burrowed my face on the couch. "I'm sorry."
["Uhm, that's okay."] The disappointment was evident in his voice, and I just wanted to die. ["Are you all alone there now?"]
"Yes," I replied. "Sky would be home by around 6 or 7 from her project something."
["Okay."] There was that sudden silence again from the other line, and I just laid down on my stomach feeling so unhappy. ["Do you still have that projector that we used for Melle's birthday last year? The one that they used at the daycare to watch cartoons?"]
Though confused, I moved out of the couch and walked into the storage that we have inside the packhouse.
"I'm looking for it now," I replied and continued to scan the place until I found it sitting right on one of the shelves in all its glory.
"I found it," I said, grabbed, and placed it on the pushcart whilst staring at it and waiting for Win to say something.
["Good. I'll ask Dad to drop me off there around 5. See you soon!"]
Win hanged up, and I stared at the phone's screen and the projector with so much confusion because I don't have any idea what he was planning. I wheeled it out of the storage and into the living room before going upstairs to shower and change into an article of much more comfortable clothing since I was still in my sweatpants earlier. This time, I aimed for fit yet cozy black chinos that matched my black and white striped shirt, plus black slip-on shoes for more comfort.
Feeling satisfied with my get-up, I left my room and into the living room, looked up at the digital clock by the counter and it flashed me 4:45 in blaring blue just in time for Clayton's car to drive by into the parking lot. Quickly, I made my way out to at least show myself to my future father-in-law all the while flattening my shirt with my palms.
"Bright," Clayton acknowledged me and Win turned around to smile at me, and I melted. But I directed my attention back to Clayton who was already boring holes in my face for staring at his son too much.
"Sir," I greeted him back. "Thank you for dropping Win off here at the packhouse."
"No problem, Bright. Though I don't know exactly why I am dropping him off right now," he said with a little bit of authority over his son before looking at me with a small smile. "But it's fine since he's just here which is much better than being dragged into a house party with booze and all that," he said whilst eyeing Win once more who was now pouting whilst taking out something from the car.
"Do you need help?" I inquired and Win blushed making me want to tease him a bit more but I didn't because Clayton was still around. Though reluctant, he nodded and I took some of the CDs that he brought and looked at it with another lace of confusion.
Once we got everything that Win had in the car, Clayton left the two of us rooted on the ground until Win subtly elbowed me and I turned to look at him. He tilted his head towards the packhouse and we both walked to the entrance until we reached the living room where he placed the CDs.
"Okay, so what do we have here?" I asked whilst holding up a CD in hand. "The Notebook. Hmm, vanilla romance."
"That's really good though, it's sweet and charming in its own way," Win stood beside me, and held the same CD without noticing that he was already holding my hand. "Allie, a girl from a very wealthy family, and Noah, a poor boy from a working-class family fall deeply in love with each other that lasted for decades even if both of their families disapprove of their relationship."
"Yes," I looked at him and he did the same thing, eyes shimmering on top of those cheeks that I wanted to pinch, and yet I controlled myself as I carried on with my explanation.
"But they still broke up and had been separated for 7 years because Noah told Allie that the relationship that they have will never work out. Noah and Allie go their separate ways – he goes to Atlanta and to WWII and she goes to Sarah Lawrence College in New York. After the war, Noah goes back to Seabrook, where the story begins, and Allie becomes engaged to Lon Hammond after meeting him while volunteering as a nurse," I paused and Win looked at me teasingly while I rolled my eyes.
"Okay, you love this movie but we're not going to watch that because I don't want to see you crying over the fact that Allie had second thoughts on marrying Lon. Why? Because she saw that Noah finally did what he wanted – remodeled an old plantation house," he bumped his waist to mine and I died right there and then.
"Anyway, where's the projector?"
"First of all, I don't cry over movies. And second, the story is simple - follow your heart. I'll grab the projector for you," I placed the CD back on the table. "Where do you want me to put this anyway?"
"Outside."
"What? Outside? Like out out? Not here in the living room? Why?"
Just as I was to question more of Win's choices, my friends came barging into the living room with stuff on their hands. Chase drops a bag filled with chips of different kinds on the kitchen counter, the same thing with Fenris who gave me a nod before disappearing into the pantry - only to come out with dips on hand. Man and Boss smiled at me at first and then went downstairs, to where the other storage was until they both showed up with loads of sheets on hand before going outside. The most questionable thing was Sky in the flesh because she was supposed to be somewhere, and yet she was here together with Earn and Pear, who were dragging the coolers out of the house. I just stood there fazed.
"Where are the speakers?" Win inquired. "Do we have some extension wires and all?"
"We do. Outside storage."
"Okay," he nodded and started to separate the CDs into genres, and I helped him out in organizing them. Once done, he took a handful of the CDs and jutted his lips to point the rest. "Please bring the other CDs outside," he instructed, and I hurriedly grabbed everything and followed him outside.
Upon reaching the backyard, my jaw almost dropped when I saw what they were doing.
The sheets were laid out on the ground by Man and Boss, and when done, Earn placed some pillows on the sheet before moving on to the next sheet. Pear busied herself placing all of the chips that they brought from the supermarket on a small table whilst Chase and Fenris filled the coolers with ice, sodas, and canned juices. Sky was making a little fortress on the side using some blankets and pillows before placing some coloring materials and other stuff in there - and I realized that those were for the pups. Making myself useful, I took the initiative to grab the speakers and wires from the storage together with Man. We placed it right beside the table for the projector - not too close though, and started to work on the extension wires. When ready, my dear mate was already busy with setting the projector up against the wall of the packhouse, which would be visible enough if it was darker - but the sun was still up, though it was almost sunset.
Satisfied with his work, Win looked at me with a wide beam on his face - and I was still lost.
"What's all of this?" I asked him when our friends disappeared, and I don't have any idea where they were at the moment.
"Well," he trailed and another blush complemented his fair skin before giving me his shy smile. "I really wanted to have that date with you, but since we cannot go out to do it..." Win spread his hands as if to point out what he planned. "I brought our movie date to you. I called our friends to help me out in setting up the place. It's like a drive-in movie, only no cars, and picnic-style instead."
I fell in love even more.
"Plus, we'll be doing it together with our friends, some pack members that would want to watch a movie, and the pups with their parents so someone could play with them if they get bored with their colors."
That was the death of me when I finally understood what was happening, and Win's beautiful smile proved only one thing - and one thing alone - the title of the Luna perfectly belongs to him. Despite the control that I have, my happiness equated to wrapping Win into a tight embrace making him let out a slight gasp from the sudden pull until I felt him wrapping his hand around me, as well.
"Thank you," I whispered and he hummed. "You are really awesome to turn our date into a much more beautiful one than how I originally planned it," I said when we both pulled away, and Win was now a good color of red. "Thank you, Win."
"Of course, we'll be watching them being all lovey-dovey instead of watching a movie," Chase blurted out which made both of us move away completely.
"And of course, we will pretend that we didn't see you hugging just earlier," he added, and that was the only time that I noticed some of the pack members who were already settling down on the sheets in a group.
"Pizza is here! Help me grab them, teens!" Sky shouted and the teens were quick on their feet to run to Sky and helped her. I smiled when I saw how excited they were as much as Win was when the other teens gathered around him to pick some movies that they also wanted to watch.
My lovely mate was smiling so brightly whilst making small conversations with them, and my eyes were brimming with tears as I looked at them. There was just so much happiness in my heart seeing how much he loves everyone in the pack, and my eyes wandered on my friends who were also doing some chats with the rest of the members. A wonderful burst of emotions made me tear up a little but I sniffed it even before it could fall into my cheeks. After watching them with so much pride and love, I have decided to spend a few moments with the packs' little wolves. I made my way to where the pups were who were already gasping with their little tents and sounding some wonderful giggles.
"Alpha's here," I said excitedly and they all squealed in delight as they ran towards me. Everyone bounced on me and I fell on the ground back first, and the pups looked at me in horror which turned into big smiles when I started to laugh my heart out. They were still tackling me, and climbing on top of me when a silhouette of a male appeared making me look up to see Win with his bunny smile.
"Looks like the pups are excited to see Alpha Bright," he said and the pups glanced at him and started to tell him random things in chorus. Win giggled before looking at me.
"Are you okay over there, Alpha?"
"Yes," I answered before sitting down, still with the pups around me until they were running to their favorite human.
My heart fluttered endlessly as I watched everything unfold my very eyes until everyone gathered at the table to share the pizza, chicken, and other meals that my friends ordered for everyone. Even the pups have their own meals on their small tables together with their parents, who were just as happy and excited as they were.
"Come on," Win interrupted my little merriment. "Let's grab a pizza so we could start our movie date," Win said, held his hand out which I grabbed as he helped me stand up. With clasped hands, we both made our way into the crowd and joined the fun that already started.
•••••
It was already six in the evening, and everyone had already settled down on their own blankets and pillows that were on the ground. And I was ecstatic when there was only Win and I on one blanket whilst the rest of our friends also paired up with the others on a different one.
The first movie that the teens picked was Click, an American fantasy comedy-drama which I have watched a million times before because Adam Sandler was just too funny throughout the movie. As the film started, Win was still a good distance from me which I didn't like at all, and being the sly wolf that I was - I moved a bit closer to him until our arms touched making him glance at me.
"Comfortable?" I inquired and Win nodded. "That's good."
He smiled before focusing back on the movie playing on the wall, and me just smiling like a total idiot that I am because the skinship was very awesome with our distance. Whilst at the moment, I grabbed a chip from our stack, opened it, and shared it with Win who was happy that I chose his favorite snack.
Everyone was just laughing every time Adam Sandler fast-forward some parts of his life especially when it was the yelling kids, his nagging wife, and another boring day at work. While the adults are into the movie too much, the pups were such sweethearts with their own movie inside their little fortress. And I'm pretty sure that it's Dora the Explorer. The movie was filled with so much comedy until everyone was sniffing when Adam Sandler realized that the remote he has in hand was already controlling his life, and he was making some bad decisions. And how much he started to regret all the moments that he had missed in his life, his kids' life, and of course, losing his wife in the process.
Sniffing made me glance at Win, who was wiping his tears away with the back of his hand with his little paw due to his oversized jacket. Cute, I thought as his eyes never peeled away from the screen, and me just enjoying and remembering this very moment that we're in. Softly, I wrapped one arm around his waist and pulled him closer to me before I leaned my head on his shoulder. Win ruffled my hair gently and I looked up, shifted a bit closer, and landed a peck on his cheeks making him turn to me with a confused expression.
"Thank you," I uttered rubbed my head on his shoulder ball before gazing back at him. "For this movie date with you, and with everyone," I added and he gave my chin a gentle flick.
"Anything for you and you can keep the coupon," he whispered, eyes lingered on my face. "You still have three more chances for a date with me. This one..." his eyes wandered around the pack right in front of us and I do the same thing with a wide grin.
"This one is free. And I hope we could do more of this in the future with the pack because they deserve it. We all deserve it."
"We do, and it's all thanks to you that something like this happened for the first time," I sat up erect, and faced a now beautifully red Win. "And I promise you that we'll do this again with them, and many more gatherings and campfires and whatnot. Anything that would make you happy, I'll do it all."
Win pursed his lip into a tight line, and I could tell that he was suppressing a smile - I was, too. And when he finally gathered himself, he placed one hand on my shoulder, pulled me closer to him, and his soft lips landed on my cheek making me shocked momentarily. We both stared at each other and everything around me disappeared the moment his eyes were on me, not even the loud sound from the speaker was audible enough because my focus was solely on Win.
I cupped his face with one hand whilst my eyes never left his lips, and we both stared at each other once more before settling back our eyes into each others' lips. The amount of tension from being this close drew us closer until our faces were just inches away. His eyes fell shut, and I close my eyes so I could feel him even more, especially when his warm breath fanned my lips, and the tip of my nose feeling the softness of his skin. With a smile and a light nudge - I was ready to feel his lips.
"NEXT MOVIE!!!"
Everyone shouted making both of us snap our eyes open, and Win covered his mouth whilst he giggled. And there I was, suddenly hating the idea of not being alone with him at the moment. I grunted in total disappointment from the interruption but Win poked my cheek, and I whirled to him.
"Next time," he said and palmed my cheek. "Let's just enjoy the next movie."
"Yes, next time," I snuggled on his palm before giving it a gentle kiss. "Yes, the movie," I added, held his hand, and looked at the screen with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh please, no. Did you choose this one?" I asked Win who was now pouting with crossed arms and nodded so cutely.
"Then don't go hiding under the blankets," I said and Win moved closer, already hiding behind me whilst I wrapped him by the shoulder all the while laughing from his cuteness.
The Conjuring played on the big screen.
